Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon
27th August 2009
Like the CTS sedan, the Sport Wagon will be offered with a base 263HP 3.6-liter V6 and a 304 Hp 3.6-liter direct injection V6 matched with either a six-speed manual or an electronically controlled six-speed automatic. European consumers will also be able to opt for a diesel variant equipped with GM’s 250HP 2.9-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine.
The electronic glitch may lead to the disablement of the front p
assenger air bag when it should be enabled or vice-versa. GM’s dealers will reprogram 2009 CTS’ passenger sensing system module free of charge with the recall expected to begin on or about November 18, 2008.
This is the second generation Cadillac SRX crossover that will be making its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. Cadillac had offered us our first glimpse of its mid-size luxury crossover in August, 2008, but now, the American automaker has released detailed information as well as new photos. According to Cadillac, the new and more compact sized SRX will compete against the Lexus RX, Acura MDX, BWW X3 and X5. Due to go on sale in the second quarter of 2009, the SRX will be offered in North America with two petrol units, a new, 260HP 3.0-liter direct injected V6 and a 300HP 2.8-liter turbocharged V6.
Combining a sexy fastback-coupe design with GM’s Voltec electric propulsion system that is similar to the one found in the Chevy Volt, the Cadillac Converj concept made its debut today in Detroit. The four-passenger Converj concept is equipped with 16-kWh, T-shaped battery pack with more than 220 lithium-ion cells, an electric drive unit, and a four-cylinder engine-generator, using electricity as its primary power source. Cadillac supports that the Converj can be driven electrically up to 40 miles without using fuel or producing tailpipe emissions.
The latest Cadillac Presidential Limousine is a completely new design, succeeding the DTS Presidential Limousine that debuted in 2004 and was used by George Bush. Predictably, GM has not revealed any specific details on the President’s new wheels besides the fact that it “includes many of the brand’s signature design elements.”
The most powerful Cadillac ever, the new CTS-V, will arrive on UK shores this February carrying a base price of £56,495 (approx $82,300 US) for the manual gearbox version and £58,995 for the automatic transmission model. The left-hand drive only CTS-V is fitted with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine that delivers 564PS (415 kW) and 747 Nm of torque, launching the car to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and on to 191 mph -175 mph for the automatic transmission.
The global meltdown in auto sales has taken its latest victim as GM’s Cadillac division has postponed its Australian debut indefinitely. The American luxury brand was initially supposed to be introduced in Australia during the last quarter of 2008, but GM postponed the launch for this February. Now, GM’s execs decided that due to the “downturn of the domestic automotive market”, it made no sense at all to launch Cadillac in Australia at this time.
The next model in GM’s vehicle line-up to bite the dust will be the Cadillac XLR according to a report from the Bowling Green Daily News. General Motors communication manager Sharon Basel, told the newspaper that production of the slow-selling XLR coupe-cabriolet will cease this spring, impacting around 40 employees at the firm’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant. The factory that also assembles the Corvette will remain closed until February 23 as GM has been forced to adjust production to plummeting vehicle sales.
This (unfinished) project is the work of a company called ‘Grande-Garage’ and according to our Russian friends over at Cardesign, the retro-styled pick-up truck that is inspired from an old soviet truck called GAZ-51, is based on the underpinnings of the Cadillac Escalade EXT. The one-off creation is said to be built for a Russian plutocrat. Since the project is still in the works, we’ll hold our final judgment until after we see it finished.
As part of its restructuring plan (we wonder how many times we’ve heard this phrase in the past and how many more times we’ll be hearing it in the future….), General Motors has disbanded its High Performance Vehicle Operations unit. The company said that all 60 engineers impacted by this decision “have been placed in other engineering operations of General Motors to work on core, volume products, including further improvements in fuel efficiency and advanced propulsion.”
