General Motors has announced a recall on MY 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS, SRX, STS, MY 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice, and MY 2007 Saturn Sky models. A total of 275,936 vehicles are involved in the recall over a faulty rear axle pinion seal that does not meet all of the specifications and may experience a fluid leak. A rear differential failure may cause loss of motive power and possibly loss of vehicle control increasing the risk of a crash. The recall is expected to begin during February 2008 with GM dealers replacing the pinion seal at no extra cost.

Driving around in a 50’s or 60’s pink Caddy with tail fins larger than life is one thing, but to be seen behind the wheel of an all-new, pink 2009 CTS is something we’d definitely avoid doing even if it concerns this one-off example that has been hand-signed by Aretha Franklin in spirit of her song “Freeway of Love” that contained the lyrics “Goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love in my pink Cadillac”

Cadillac is enhancing its UK range with the addition of a right-hand-drive version of the 2008 STS. The American carmaker’s flagship model will be available in the British market with a 315 Hp 3.6-liter V6 and a 330 Hp 4.6 V8 engine. Prices for the 2008 Cadillac STS start at £33,995 or approx $67,750 for the basic V6 model.

Though not officially confirmed, a top-of-the-line “V” model of Cadillac’s upcoming CTS Coupe (based on the Detroit Show concept) is probably in the works as there’s no better way of promoting a car like this than creating a “halo” version. As these photo illustrations created by Nick Wilcox for Insideline suggest, apart from receiving GM’s supercharged 550Hp 6.2-liter V8 engine, Cadillac’s answer to the BMW M3 will also feature an aggressive bodykit to help it stand out from the standard versions.

During testing today at Germany’s Nurburgring race track, the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V managed to complete a lap of the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 59.32 seconds. According to Cadillac, the sub-8 minute lap appears to be the fastest ever publicly recorded for a production version sedan.

    Cadillac STS 2009

    2nd December 2008

The 2009 Cadillac STS is a luxury full-size sedan, comparable to the Mercedes CLS Class, that includes generous power, a wealth of options, and a number of safety features. This model is a carryover from the previous year. With five trim levels, buyers can customize the STS to fit their specific needs. This five-passenger vehicle comes equipped with OnStar as well, a safety program that includes immediate accident alerts, roadside assistance, and even turn-by-turn navigation provided by a live company representative.

The Cadillac STS’s base model is fitted with a 302 horsepower 3.6L V6, while the Premium Luxury Performance trim includes an impressive 320 horsepower 4.6L V8. Standard on all trims is a Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control. This feature allows drivers to have the convenience and ease of an automatic with the performance and control of a manual. Nevertheless, potential buyers might be disappointed that only one transmission is available on the STS. With an estimated 17 city MPG and 26 highway MPG, the Cadillac STS is in the middle of the pack. However, those that are looking for exceptional fuel economy in a luxury sedan might want to look elsewhere.

Standard features include 17-inch aluminum wheels, a remote start system, premium Bose sound system, and ultrasonic rear parking assist. The rear parking assist program provides drivers with alerts if an object is blocking their reverse driving path. This can come in handy as the view from the rear window is slightly elevated, making it sometimes difficult to see what is behind the vehicle.

The STS-V is Cadillac’s high performance version of the model with a healthy 469 horsepower 4.4L Northstar V8 engine. Performance-tuned suspension and high-performance disc brakes are featured on the STS-V as well. But, buyers can expect a base MSRP of $80,690.

The 2009 Cadillac STS is impressive both in exterior design and interior luxury. The base trim begins at $44,550 for which a mature buyer would appreciate the STS’s features, while the younger consumer will be awed by its exceptional power. Families searching for a safe luxury model would do well with the STS base trim, while those in search of exceptional sedan performance will find a match in the STS-V. Also, the kids will love the optional headrest DVD players.

The 2009 Cadillac STS-V is a Cadillac, and that should say it all, but does it?
Pushed by a 469 horsepower supercharged dual overhead cam 4.4 liter V8, the STS-V is lighting fast.
Yet it’s nowhere near the fastest car in its class, a distinction held by the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. The STS-V uses a six speed automatic transmission with “manual shift” capability, but no true manual transmission is available. That’s surprising for a high performance car.

The exterior appointments and the mostly leather and wood interior give the single trim model of the STS-V the high quality feel that you expect from a Cadillac, but again there are disappointments. Perhaps the best looking car in its class, the front seat ride is fine and the handling is everything you would expect from a Cadillac sports sedan. However, the back seat is a bit cramped. While the trunk is large enough, the trunk opening is not.

Of course, like any Cadillac, the STS-V comes standard with lots of amenities. Those not standard can be ordered. Some of the more exotic include a heated steering wheel, a voice recognition navigation system, heated windshield washer nozzles, headlight washers, Bose sound system and heated back seats. In short, it has the kind of touches which make a Cadillac, a Cadillac. And it rides like a Cadillac should, and that includes keeping the noise to a minimum.

With a car of this type you expect top-notch safety features, and again Cadillac delivers. In addition to the excellent features of the STS, generally, such as On Star, rear obstacle detection, wiper activated headlights, brake assist, anti-skid and airbags every where, the STS-V has uprated brakes, blind-spot alert and lane-departure warning.

You don’t buy a Cadillac with an eye on your wallet, but with a starting price of $79,465 the STS-V is among the least expensive machines in its class. The fact that it requires premium fuel doesn’t change that, since the rest of this class requires the same. The rated mpg of 13 city and 19 highway is also par for a luxury sports car.

The bottom line is that the 2009 Cadillac STS-V is a car damned by faint praise. A truly fine car, it still falls short of the Cadillac tradition in several ways. The best thing you can say is that it is possibly the best car in its class for the money. Still, Cadillac quality shouldn’t be qualified by price. If you’re looking for a Cadillac, you’ll love it. If you’re looking for a top of the line sports sedan, maybe it shouldn’t be the only place you look.

The 2009 Cadillac SRX is a seven-passenger luxury crossover that is a carryover from 2008. Its elegant, chiseled exterior is matched only by the wealth of technological features inside. The high price might be a turnoff for some buyers, but others will certainly appreciate the innovative safety features and entertainment options. With two engine choices, buyers will be able to customize the SRX to fit their specific needs. However, in an age when fuel economy is a top priority, the SRX’s 15 city MPG and 23 highway MPG simply cannot compete with the new hybrid crossover models.

Inside, the 2009 SRX includes an eight-speaker Bose Sound System, dual-zone climate control, power programmable door locks, and the OnStar system. The free one-year subscription to OnStar features turn-by-turn navigation, roadside assistance, emergency services, and stolen vehicle location assistance. The stolen vehicle location will alert the authorities to the general area of an owner’s stolen vehicle, helping to both find the crossover and sometimes apprehend the culprit/s. However, some critics claim that the phrase “turn-by-turn navigation” is misleading, as live OnStar representatives provide the directions rather than a digital readout on an LCD screen.

the hood, the Cadillac SRX is equipped with either a 255 horsepower 3.6L V6 or a 320 horsepower 4.6L V8. Buyers that are looking for a bit more power in a crossover should be pleased with the V8 option. The V6 trim comes standard with a five-speed automatic transmission, while the V8 trim includes a six-speed automatic transmission. Both transmission choices include an overdrive mode. Anti-lock brakes with brake assist, an electronic stability control program, and all-speed traction control are included as well. The all-speed traction control will provide drivers with more control at high speeds and in inclement weather.

The majority of the SRX’s entertainment features can be purchased from a number of upgrade packages. The Convenience Package includes a Radio Data System and six-disc in-dash CD changer, while the Theater Package consists of a rear-seat DVD player and an LCD screen, wireless headphones, and a remote control. The DVD system is a great option for families with children, especially during road trips. However, individuals might not find that the DVD system is a practical purchase.

In general, the 2009 Cadillac SRX is an up-market crossover for the contemporary buyer. Moderate gas mileage and price (base MSRP $38,805) might cause some buyers to overlook the model though. Nevertheless, its exterior styling is competitive with other luxury crossovers on the market, and its safety features are hard to beat. In addition, buyers are also able to give their SRX personal touches with upgrade packages and two engine choices.
